IELTS scores

International English Language Testing System

IELTS scores range between 1 and 9 but most people get a score between 4.5 and 7.5. If you go to a typical language school you can expect to improve your IELTS score by 1 point approximately every 12 weeks.

Of course your progress depends on what you study, how you study and how hard you study. Your IELTS score is valid for 2 years.

IELTS has become a popular way of meeting English language requirements at colleges and universities. British university entry requirements are generally in the range IELTS 6.0 to 7.0 but you need to check for each course. For example at Oxford Brookes University you need 6.0 or 6.5 for most undergraduate degree courses and 6.0 to 7.0 for postgraduate courses.

Your result is the average of the scores from the individual parts of the exam.
