Vocabulary: Words that go together

Vocabulary
Upper intermediate to advanced level (B2/C1/C2)

In English many words have a special relationship with other words. For example verbs and nouns:

suggest an alternative
realise an ambition
make a change
pay one’s way
resolve a situation
live one’s dream

Here is a crazy paragraph with all the expressions!

Some people have a clear idea about what they want to do with their lives. They sometimes want to realise an ambition such as singing on stage or being a stand-up comedian. However trying to live one’s dream is not always easy and it can make paying one’s way in the world quite difficult. After years of frustration and occasionally poverty, friends and family often suggest alternatives in the hope that the person can make a change but sometimes the situation is never resolved.
