Vocabulary: Do you ‘get’ it?

‘Get’ is used all the time in everyday spoken English. You can get an email or get drunk or get married. ‘Get’ is also used with a lot of adverbs for example, I get on with her sister or The Democrats didn’t get in. However, even with the same adverb, ‘get’ expressions can have different meanings:

You should be getting off now (the person could be late)
I can’t get off to sleep (it is not possible to fall asleep)
He gets off on being rude to people (being rude makes him very excited)

Try to learn a range of expressions and phrasal verbs with ‘get’ because this will help you understand English conversation.
